We've been through so much in the last couple of months! I would never wish the stress and anxiety a parent goes through when your child is sick or injured on anyone! On Valentines Day we took our 6yr old daughter into the doctors because she was complaining of her back hurting down by her tailbone. She was walking a little slower also. The doctor examined her and thought that maybe she had bruised her tailbone and told us just to watch it over the next couple of weeks. Being satisfied with that answer we took her home.
Well the next week proved to be a rough one as each day her pain increased till by the end of the week she could no longer walk or sit. Finally we took her into the ER Sabbath morning, the 19th. They got her in right a way and ran a battery of tests including drawing blood, having her pee in a cup, and a cat scan. The only thing they found was that she was very constipated. So they began the process of un-constipating her. She was so brave through the whole process. But the doctor, like us, was not convinced that this was her only problem. So my little girl and I bunked up in the pediactric ward for the night. That was one long night and I cried a lot at seeing my sweet baby so small and helpless in that big hospital bed hooked up to tubes and IV's. I just spent the whole night crying out to God! We had never received so much support as we did then from our family, friends and church family! God is good and supplied us with a steady supply of love!
The next morning they gave her an MRI and again my little girl proved how brave she was for that noisy 45min test. Finally they found the problem... a small hairline fracture of her S1 Vertebrae! Two of my best girlfriends came to support me at the hospital and were there when we got the news! We were so happy and so were the doctors! Our main concern was that she had some strange tumor growing or some other disease. A fracture...we can deal with that and it will heal.

So home again we went, supplied with a perscription for a wheel chair and instructions to give her ibuprophin around the clock. The healing process of a fracture is a painful and difficult process...especially in a little girl! We spent the next couple weeks trying to help her do just daily functions in utter pain and exaughstion! It was so hard...and then her pain was getting worse not better! So back to the ER we went but this time it was to OHSU's Children's hospital. Thankfully after hours of strength tests and visits by multiple very interested doctors, we were sent home again with the same diagnosis. Added to our arsenal of healing aids was a back brace and some Oxycodone...two gifts from Heaven!!
The healing process was much smoother from that point on! Before long we were back at our homeschool classes and all of her teacher's and friends were so happy to see her! Four weeks after her initial ER visit, we had an appointment with the Pediactric Neurosurgeon at OHSU. After examining her and going over her x-rays he was very confident in her recovery and scheduled a follow up MRI in four weeks. Later on in the week we saw a Physical Therapist who also was very pleased with her progress so far and gave us a good report! She finally began walking and pretty soon refused to use her back brace or wheelchair!

In the beginning of April we went back to the Pediactric Neurosurgen and had her follow up MRI during which my sweet little pickle fell asleep! Now if anyone has had an MRI before, you know how loud those tests are. You have to wear ear plugs and ammo headphones. But she fell asleep which made for some very clear pictures. We again got a glowing report and headed home with high spirits.
The next day things changed when the doctor called us and said the radiologist had reviewed the newest MRI and wanted us referred to the Hematology/Oncology department of Dornbeckers Children's Hospital. They saw some Hyperintensity of the Bone Marrow. Now of course I looked that up on the internet and saw that it could be indicative of a fracture healing...or it could be bone marrow Cancer, leukemia...etc! I freaked out a little. They scheduled us for our appointment a few days later. I don't know why it didn't register with me the department we were going to. But as soon as we walked in and I realized it was the Children's Cancer Ward...I lost it. Let me say how amazing the doctors are there! Completely Amazing! They made Kaylee laugh and made me feel completely at ease. After she was examined by two doctors, both felt no concern and were also pleased with her progress. They still wanted to get her blood drawn because if anything was going on in there, her blood would show it. Two days after her blood draw we got the results...Praise the Lord all was normal!
Now I just have to list some of the amazing blessings during this trial. None of us got sick! During this whole process we all stayed healthy, which was a huge deal for Kaylee because just laughing hurt her sooo bad. Now that her back is not hurting...she has a cold and bad cough...infact we all got sick with colds! But God is so good to sustain our health during this time. He truely does not give us more than he can handle!

I just can't wait now until we are all well again and the weather is nice so we can go outside! We did get to take advantage of one nice day this last weekend to go to the Zoo and we counted our blessings at Kaylee's ability to walk to whole way! In fact just yesterday she ran...really ran for the first time since her injury and she was soooo proud!

Glad it wasn't cancer and that she's doing well now. God bless you and your family and heal you all!
Tamara, sweetie! I am so glad of the outcome! She is so precious! I understand the staying in the hosp. and crying out to God as you watch your helpless, innocent child going through something you would do anything to change spots for. God just increased your faith in Him and not yourself to take care of all that is important to you. Praise God!
